Activating and using SnapScan as a payment option

SnapScan is a free mobile application that allows shoppers to make safe, fast and easy mobile payments. The app supports credit cards and most debit cards from any local bank, as well as 3D Secure-enabled international bank cards.

For sellers

To accept SnapScan payment method, simply tick the box next to the SnapScan logo in your payment options (terms apply). It is to your advantage to offer as many different payment methods as possible in order to reach more online shoppers.

For buyers

First install the SnapScan mobile app. You can either search your phone app store for the SnapScan app, or visit snapscan.co.za. SnapScan is available for iOS, Android and most BlackBerry smartphones.  Feature phones are not supported. SnapScan is free to download and use. Network operator data charges apply. The app is less than 10 MB in size. After you’ve downloaded the app, each transaction uses very little data.

During the installation process, you will be prompted to add your credit or debit card details. SnapScan works with ecommerce-enabled MasterCard or Visa cards from any South African bank. Your card details are kept safely encrypted on your phone.

You can pay via SnapScan on Bob Shop when buying from sellers who accept this method of payment. Simply filter by payment option when browsing and searching, or look for the SnapScan icon in the listing of the item you want to buy. During the checkout process, open your SnapScan app and tap on "Scan" to scan the SnapCode (a QR code, or square barcode) displayed. Enter the amount you wish to pay and enter your PIN (or use TouchID on your Apple device) to complete the transaction. The seller will receive a notification to confirm that the payment has been made.
